While I've been interested in strange and seemingly random configurations of trash on the street for many years, I've only recently begun photographing them with regularity and seriousness. Looking at litter, I often wonder, “How did that get there?” I lose myself in imagining what scenarios could lead to putting an ice-cream carton deep inside the branches of a tree or to locking a crumpled up bag of chips behind a grate. It's not like there aren't trash cans near these odd deposits of waste, so why not deposit the trash there? The improbability of the litter's location seems to fuel an almost insane historical imagination in me. As I share my photographs of trash with you here, I wonder what scenarios you might imagine. I'm guessing we might come up with some pretty interesting stories.
